A Joint Biotechnology Project between Helsinki and Akron

The representatives of the cities of Helsinki and Akron (Ohio) have  agreed on a joint objective to offer establishing services to life science companies. To reach the goal, the cities will create a biotechnology bridge between Helsinki and Akron.

International R&D collaboration is an essential part of the service. Helsinki and Akron are recognized centres of academic excellence. The aim of the collaboration project is to commercialize this top class research expertise with the help of the resources, opinion leaders and networks of the target country. This collaboration supports the cities’ business life by opening opportunities for new companies to establish themselves in the area.

For Helsinki’s part, this collaboration aims at assisting Helsinki companies interested in the US market. Through this new collaboration project, such companies have the opportunity of reaching the local science and hospital network and financers.  On the other hand, there is a great interest in getting US companies to settle in Helsinki. The local high-class research and public financing instruments are considered to be the most significant attracting factors here.

The Helsinki Business & Science Park Oy and Akron Global Business Accelerator are the practical implementers and service providers.
