Finland-Based Wireless Network Technology Company Lands in Akron

Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic announced today that Finland-based wireless network technology company, 7signal Ltd., is locating its sales offices and Network Operation Center in Akron’s Biomedical Corridor.  “In today’s world of health care,” said the Mayor, “one of the most critical missions is to develop computerized software and hardware that enhances the work of doctors and hospitals.”

BioFinland prize to Oncos Therapeutics Ltd

Oncolytic viruses are a novel, evolving form of cancer therapy striving toward greater precision, effectiveness, and safety in the treatment of cancer. The biotechnology company Oncos Therapeutics Ltd, operating in Helsinki, works to develop oncolytic viruses on the basis of the results of an experimental therapy programme and years of scientific research carried out at the University of Helsinki. Finnish Bioindustries FIB and the Finnish Fair Foundation have chosen this developer of nextgeneration cancer treatment methods as the recipient of the 2011 BioFinland prize.

BNCT, a new-generation radiation treatment pioneered in Finland, is effective in advanced head and neck cancer

The years of work done on developing and clinically testing of BNCT – or Boron Neutron Capture Therapy – are now paying off. BNCT-based treatment has been successfully used to treat patients with advanced head and neck cancer who have not responded to previous treatments and generally have poor prognosis.

MediSapiens gets additional $ 1 million from Tekes to extend its genomic profiling software

February 26, 2011. Helsinki, Finland – MediSapiens, world’s first software company for personalized cancer medicine in oncology clinics and drug development, received approximately $ 1 million (€ 0.75 million) from the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. With the funding, MediSapiens will continue developing its genomics software for biopharmaceutical research and oncology clinics.
